Sunday, Feb. 22: PACRAT Double-Race Day

PACRAT racers will get four chances to shred the gates on Shooting Star Ridge this coming Sunday, Feb. 22, at Mt. Hood Meadows.

Thin snow coverage on Mount Hood has made it a challenge to stage races this year, and with the absence of Skibowl, Shooting Star has become quite the draw for racers of all ages and sizes. PACRAT organizers decided to seize the opportunity and double up the festivities for Sunday, with two giant slalom races of two runs each, followed by a big party.

With up to 200 racers expected to make four runs through the course each, it is going to be a very busy day.

Race 1 is scheduled to start at 9:30 am; Race 2 at 12:30 pm. 12:30. Discounted race tickets are available, and racers should use the Stadium Chair to get over to Shooting Star quicker.

After the race there will be a party at the Comfort Zone Cafe in the Meadows South Lodge, for PACRAT members only, starting at 3 pm, with Brats, hot dogs, veggie chili, and salad. $15 for meal only; $20 for meal and two beer/wine tickets.

PACRAT racing has been around for 30 years on Mount Hood. The races are usually head-to-head dual giant slalom courses, scored on a point system that rewards steady improvement, and racers compete in teams of up to 10 skiers or snowboarders.

If you enjoy going fast, you might consider trying it out. PACRAT races are open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages and ability levels, and teams are always looking for new members. More info here.
