Racers power up and rip it down Skibowl for Mountain Man 2014

Racers powered through a grueling uphill and a ripping-fast downhill for the July 13 Mountain Man Challenge mountain bike race at Mt. Hood Skibowl.

A small but enthusiastic band of riders ranging from novices to pros tore up from the Skibowl base to the Upper Bowl chairlift, took some time to recuperate, and then raced down using the same bikes they used to climb.

Racers competed by age and ability level in the climb, the downhill race and combined times.

The winner for both the climb and the downhill race was Charlie Sponsel, racing for Diamondback Bikes, pictured below.

Sponsel completed the uphill portion in 11:37 and clocked in at 2:31 in the downhill.

Finishing in second was Alex McGinnis, with a time of 12:24 in the uphill and 2:34 in the downhill:

Here’s a slideshow of some other competitors. If you can help me out with IDs, or if you participated in the race and you would like a free photo of yourself competing, feel free to pop me a note.
