Mt. Hood Skibowl will close out its 2013-14 season with free lift passes for all on Sunday, April 13.
Lifts will operate from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday at no charge, with a suggested donation of four cans of food to the Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division. The forecast call for sunshine, with high temperatures reaching into the 50s.
“Even in a challenging season, Skibowl recognizes that our customers are loyal and the best in the Northwest,” said Skibowl spokesman Hans Wipper.
Skibowl and its pass holders had to make do with just a few rope tows through November, December and half of January this season, as storm after storm brought rain instead of snow to the resort’s 3500-foot base elevation. The resort finally ran chairlifts for the first time midway through January for Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend. Some large storms brought a few powder days in February and March and traffic was steady at the Skibowl Tubing Hill, but the loss of skiing and snowboarding over the Christmas holidays definitely hurt.
Skibowl will be open Friday, April 11 from 9 am to 10 pm and Saturday, April 12 from 9 am to 10 pm.
After Skibowl closes for the winter season, the staff will transform the ski area into the Mt. Hood Adventure Park, with a dual Alpine Slide, ziplines and climbing walls, and a lift-assisted Mountain Bike Park.
