Oregon City, Sandy, and West Linn lead a strong Mount Hood showing at the 2014 Oregon snowboarding championships

Mount Hood-based high school riders scored major points in racing, slopestyle and halfpipe at the 2014 State Championships at Mount Bachelor March 13-15.

Ashland High School won the boys Sato Cup for overall excellence, followed by Sandy High, West Linn and Tualatin. It was quite the accomplishment for Ashland, since they hardly had a chance to ride all season due to terrible snow conditions in Southern Oregon.

The girls Sato Cup was claimed by a talented Oregon City High School team led by Sierra Clasen.

Clasen won the snowboard cross and banked slalom races and took first in the judged slopestyle competition. She narrowly missed a clean sweep of the individual events by finishing second in the halfpipe competition behind Maddie Collins of Hood River.

Collins also excelled in slopestyle with a fourth-place finish at states.

Jeremy Nylund of Sandy High was the top overall competitor for the boys. Nylund finished first in slopestyle and banked slalom and took fourth in snowboard cross.

Michael Foushee of West Linn finished first in halfpipe, eighth in banked slalom and 10th in slopestyle.

Graham Fletcher of Tuslatin finished second in slopestyle.

Chris Flake of Canby took second in snowboard cross, second in banked slalom, third in halfpipe and ninth in slopestyle.

Cassidy Smith of Lincoln finished second in banked slalom and seventh in halfpipe.

Virginia O’Regan of Sandy finished second in slopestyle, third in banked slalom and fourth in halfpipe.
