New snow, cheap passes and tons of events to choose from this spring on Mount Hood

Into pond skimming? Charitable fundraisers? Park jibbing? Recreational racing? Vertical challenges? Up-and-down races? Homemade sleds? The Mount Hood spring calendar has got you covered.

After two recent loads of fresh snow Monday and Friday, resort snow bases as of 1 pm Friday, March 14 are 132 inches at Timberline, 106 inches at Mt. Hood Meadows and 41 inches in the Upper Bowl at Skibowl (5010 feet). That’s below average for this time of year, but not nearly as bad as it could have been, given how thin snowpack was in January.

Here is a photo from Grant Myrdal shot March 11 at Meadows:

Timberline is offering a spring pass for $99 that is good seven days a week through May 26, 2014. That’s more than 70 days on the mountain if you add them up.

Meadows is selling a spring pass for $139 for daily riding through April 27, plus bonus weekends in May.

Skibowl’s $99 spring pass is good for nights and weekends through April 13, assuming the lower elevation base holds up that long. The Skibowl pass also gets you savings on lodging, food and beverages.

All three major Mount Hood resorts are staging spring events galore, ranging from the Skibowl Beachfest March 22 to the Rams Head Randonee May 3. Here is a sampling of 15 options among many.
