Snow gods beat back the rain gods for a change

The rain finally turned to snow after a wring-your-gloves-out-into-a-puddle weekend on Mount Hood, and the forecast is calling for sunshine Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

As of 7 pm Monday night there was 3-7 inches of fresh snow on the mountain depending on elevation. Even Skibowl was getting steady lower elevation snow to fill in the puddles that forced the cancellation of the Masters Mania giant slalom race yesterday and turned the Hope on the Slopes 24-hour vertical challenge into a soggy rainfall endurance contest.

With luck the conditions will be as good for the rest of the week as they were last Friday, when I shot these photos before hiding the camera away to protect it from the torrential downpours all weekend:

That’s Asit Rathod taking it nice and smooth.
