October 20, 2013 on Mount Hood: Sunny and Warm, but the Base at Timberline Lodge is officially zero

It’s sunny and warm on Mount Hood again today, with very little wind. But even at 8,000 feet the snow is getting pretty thin. The base depth at Timberline Lodge is officially zero, and a few rocks are starting to poke through the groomed areas of Palmer Snowfield. The snow is crunchy in the morning then softening quickly. The visibility has been stunning.

Wind: 5-10 mph from the East Southeast

Snow Base at Timberline Lodge: 0 inches

Annual snowfall at Timberline: 38 inches

Freezing Level: Around 13,000 feet
