October 19, 2013 on Mount Hood: Sunny, Warm and Melting

It’s sunny and warm on Mount Hood again today, and the snow is getting pretty thin. It’s a boot walk on pavement from Timberline Lodge to the base of the Magic Mile Chairlift, and a few rocks are starting to poke through the groomed areas of Palmer Snowfield. But the October light and the visibility are stunning.

Temperature Range at 6,337 feet: 50-56

Wind: 5-10 mph from the West Northwest

Snow Base at Timberline Lodge: 4 inches at most

Annual snowfall at Timberline: 38 inches

Freezing Level: Around 13,000 feet

Roads: Clear
