Mt. Hood Meadows is planning to expand parking and indoor seating significantly with a 2-year, $15 million investment partly financed by a new five-year season pass.

Resort spokesman Dave Tragethon says the new lodge, Sahale, will be a 23,500 square foot building that will house the Meadows Learning Center, ski and snowboard rental center and a new 10,000 square foot restaurant. The $15 million building will be constructed over the next two seasons with a grand opening target of Christmas 2020. Sahale will be the first significant commercial improvement at Meadows since the South Lodge expansion in 1999.

The new lodge will create 900 new lodge seats at Meadows, a 60% increase. The resort will also open 250 new overflow parking spots near the Meadows Nordic Center, the first phase of the Nordic Lot project.

The new lodge and parking will directly address two large problems identified by Meadows customers: parking capacity and indoor seating for meals. Indoor seating is notoriously hard to find at Meadows during peak winter weekends, and parking lots often fill up to capacity, especially when the snow is good.

By selling 1250 five-year Sahale Gold Memberships, Meadows intends go raise up to $3.25 million from diehard skiers and snowboarders to get the work started. The resort sold 750 of the new passes in the first 10 days they were available, according to Tragethon.

Dave Tragethon’s blog on the Meadows website describes the project in detail, with additional renderings and information about the five-year pass. Click here to read it.
