Mount Hood Skier Doc Jeff Albright takes two second place podiums on the American Windsurfing Tour

Mount Hood skier, race dad and physician Dr. Jeffreys Albright took second place in two categories at the American Windsuring Tour’s Pistol River Wave Bash on the Southern Oregon Coast.

Albright, who cares for injured skiers and snowboarders at the emergency clinic at Mt. Hood Meadows and performs surgeries with Advantage Orthopedic in Gresham, moved to Oregon at least partly for the windsurfing. He has competed on the American Windsuring Tour for several years, including competitions in Maui and Baja California.

Conditions were reportedly brutal for the Pistol River Wave Bash last weekend, with large swells and strong current, but Albright managed to string together enough solid sessions to earn second place in both the Amateur and Master’s divisions. “Jeff as always was solid on the waves and very wise in wave selection, picking off some bombs and riding them all the way in,” ” wrote on-the-scene AWT reporter Russ Faurot in his blog post summarizing Day Three of the competition.

Albright took second place in the amateurs division June 11 after an exhausting day of five sailing sessions. Jake Schettewi, a young sailor from Maui who finished first, is expected to go pro before long.

In the masters competition on June 13 Albright won three heats in a row before being edged out in the final show-down by Hood River Ripper Sean Aiken.

The next AWT event will be in Baja, August 1-8. Jeff won’t be competing in that one, but he plans to make it next year for sure.
