250 Young Racers Shred Shooting Star for Meadows Challenge 2015

The Mitey Mite racers of Mount Hood were treated to perfect visibility and good, fast snow for the Meadows Challenge giant slalom race on Sunday.

The lack of snow has driven riders and racers higher up the mountain in search of turns this year, and Shooting Star Ridge has replaced Stadium as the setting of choice for courses. There was a slalom course set up there on Saturday and a giant slalom course Sunday, and if you add them up it comes to about 1,000 race runs over the weekend for young competitors from the Meadows Race Team, the Cooper Spur Race Team, the Mt. Hood Race Team, Cascade Winter Sports Club and the MAC Club.

It has been a mixed season for young racers, with a lot of rainy days and missed training sessions. But Sunday couldn’t have been sweeter, with sunshine, soft snow and a fun, wide-open GS course for the kids to rip. Here is a shot of Mackenzie Greenslade of the Mt. Hood Race Team in her tuck. She won both the slalom and the GS over the weekend in her U12 girls division – in fact, she’s won just about every race she has entered this season, if not all of them.

All racers got ribbons and hats for their efforts; top 10 finishers in each division won medals, and top three podium finishers earned trophies. Here the U10 boys trophy winners at Sunday’s award ceremony, Josh Johnson of MAC (center), Porter Sullivan of MRT (right) and Peyton Wells of CSRT (left):
