Sammy Carlson defends his title with a killer video for Real Ski Backcountry 2014

UPDATE: The votes are in, and Sammy won. Oregon-born-and-raised freeskier extraordinaire Sammy Carlson is the defending champion of the Real Ski Backcountry X Games competition, and his jaw-dropping 2014 video shows why won again this year.

Filmed and edited by Drew Lederer, Sammy’s 2014 video entry shows him slicing down pillow sequences like water flowing downhill, soaring off huge rocks and pulling smooth maneuvers in chest-deep powder.

It’s the kind of style that made Sammy Carlson one of the top competitors in the world when he was ripping slopestyle on the Dew Tour. It also makes him one of the most highly regarded backcountry freeskiers out there now that he has shifted from competition to riding for films like On Top of the Hood with Nimbus Independent and his current two-year film project with Teton Gravity Research.

Not bad for a kid from Tigard.

Sammy was one of seven freeskiers vying for fan votes to win Real Ski Backcountry competition this year, with the winner announced on ABC’s “World of X Games” on September 14.
