For further proof that today’s top-level slopestyle skiers are insanely talented, creative and fearless, take a look at these photos of 2014 silver medalist Gus Kenworthy from Stephen Garretson of Gee Photo, shot at Mt. Hood Skibowl last spring.
Kenworthy joined Nike riders Jossi Wells, TJ Schiller and Johnnie Paxson for a wild chairlift-shredding adventure at Skibowl in April 2013 organized by features designer Peter Alport for Nike.
At the time of the shooting, Kenworthy was just another freeskier with massive big-air and jibbing skills. Now he is an Olympic silver medalist who joined Joss Christensen and Nick Goepper in pulling off a clean American podium sweep at the Olympic debut of slopestyle skiing in Russia last week.
Garretson was on the scene with Kenworthy and the others last April documenting the event for Skibowl, and he captured these images and the following video, “Jibbing over the Chairlift,” produced for Skibowl by Gee Photo:
