High school racers from three different leagues got to shred gates on Shooting Star Ridge and Gemini over the weekend, and Hood River Valley and Jesuit are looking like the teams to beat.
Hood River dominated the Mt. Hood League slalom held Saturday on Gemini at Meadows, winning the girls and boys team contests by more than a minute and a half combined. Four of the top six male finishers were from Hood River, as were four of the top eight female finishers.
Lucy McLean of Hood River won the girls slalom by more than 10 seconds. Her teammate Austin Keillor won the boys slalom by more than six seconds. McLean and Keillor also won the Christine Cato Memorial Race at Timberline January 4.
Jesuit similarly swept the boys and girls team competitions in a Metro League giant slalom Saturday on Shooting Star Ridge. The Jesuit boys team beat out Southridge by eighteen and a half seconds, while the girls team beat Southridge by over 23 seconds. Jesuit’s Andis Solomon took first in the boys race, and Jesuit’s Jenna Jansky won her second race of the year handily, by nearly seven seconds.
Here is a photo of Jenna Jansky’s winning run Saturday, shot by the excellent ski racing photographer Mike Juliana. Mike has a huge collection of Mount Hood racing photographs for sale at his website mikejulianaphotography.com.
The team competitions in the Three Rivers League giant slalom Sunday on Shooting Star Ridge were also pretty lopsided. The West Linn boys raced to victory by nearly 10 seconds over Wilsonville, and the Lincoln girls won by nearly 12 seconds over Lake Oswego.
Defending state champ Trevor Maxwell of West Linn, fresh back from a FIS race in Montana, won with a combined time of 1:15:99, while Emily Sarich of Parkrose won the girls race with a time of 1:18:92. Maxwell and Sarich both train on Hood with the Cascade Winter Sports Club.

The Metro League results are not live on the web yet, but should be up shortly. I will update this article once they are live.
And if anyone has video or photos to share for this and/or future high school racing stories, please let me know.
