Tuesday, Jan. 21: U.S. 26 Mt. Hood Safety Project Public Meeting and Open House

ODOT will host an open house Tuesday, January 21 at the Resort at the Mountain to discuss plans to improve safety along U.S. 26 between of Kiwanis Camp Road and Skibowl West.

The original plan involved widening the road, blasting rocks and building a concrete barrier in the center of the highway 2.3 miles long, to prevent cross-over head-on collisions. The plan did not call for the blasting of Silent Rock, but it did call for extensive rock-blasting near Silent Rock.

However, contractor bids for the project came in substantially higher than expected, forcing ODOT  to modify the plan for a second round of bidding.

At Tuesday night’s meeting ODOT reps will share the current status of the project, and explain changes to the project and its schedule.

The budget for the project is $25 million.

Anyone with questions, ideas or concerns will have an opportunity to speak to ODOT staff one-on-one.
