Freestylers shred through the ice at first USASA rail jam

A crazy ice storm on the east slope of Mount Hood didn’t stop skiers and snowboarders as young as six years old from opening the USASA Mt. Hood Series with a steady flow of rail jam runs well into the evening of Saturday, Dec. 21.

Competitors shredded by age category, skier vs. skier and boarder vs. boarder. They got 20 minutes to make as many runs down as they had energy for, pulling tricks off a variety of boxes and rails, a picnic table, and a large plastic ball. As soon as they finished one run, they hiked back up for another, and the judges rated them for overall style, cumulatively.

The winner in the men’s open snowboard division was Rick Millet.
