Popular Govy bartender dies young

Geoff Ecker, a popular and much-loved bartender at Charlie’s Mountain View Restaurant and Bar, died early Tuesday morning of natural causes.

He was 44. His body was found by a roommate at 8:30 am Tuesday, Oct. 22 in his Government Camp home. The cause of death was a pre-existing medical condition, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Ecker worked at Charlie’s for more than 20 years. He was known for his ability to get along with all types of people, his stories and his extensive music collection of more than 70,000 tracks that he loved to share with patrons and friends.

He was also an excellent musician.

An impromptu and informal gathering was held at Charlie’s Tuesday night in his honor, and stories about Geoff are circulating far and wide.
