Shred Hood is a community news and information website founded in 2013 to cover the skiing, snowboarding, and outdoor enthusiast scene on Mount Hood. The site was updated steadily for five years, with coverage of summer snow sports on the mountain, bicycling, kite and windsurfing, hiking and climbing and other activities popular with the mountain community, as well as environmental, cultural and economic stories. More recently, it has gone mostly dormant, and is only updated occasionally.
Shred Hood Editor and Publisher Ben Jacklet (pictured above at Ski Bowl in 2016) began skiing at age 5 in New Hampshire and has been a professional writer, editor and publisher for 28 years. He is the editor of the forthcoming book by Asit Rathod, “11,239: A Skiing and Snowboarding Guide from the Summit of Mount Hood.”
Ben Jacklet works in the field of solar energy, which he considers our best tool to ensure a clean energy future with snow-capped mountains. He is the author of the forthcoming narrative nonfiction book “Follow the Sun: Around the World in Search of Solar Solutions—and Hope.”
