The thing about Super Bowl is, you have to earn those turns.

But it’s worth it.

It’s easy to see why skinning up to enjoy untracked terrain gets more popular every year. Split board, teles, Alpine touring, whatever your gear preference, it’s just nice to get up there. The snow high on Mount Hood has been outstanding this winter, and the views are spectacular.

Grant Myrdal is sharing some photos he shot up in Super Bowl last week, and they are amazing. Blue skies, stunning views, big smiles all around, like this one from Jenny Harvey-Smith:

Super Bowl lies directly above the top of the Cascade Lift at Meadows, and it offers skiers and snowboarders an extra 1700 vertical feet of wide-open terrain if they are willing to hike up. Since it is so easy to access and so much fun when conditions are good, Superbowl is one of the most popular skin-up spots on the mountain, along with the Hogsback on the South Side and the trek to the top of Tom, Dick and Harry from Mirror Lake.
