The popular 24-hour shred-a-thon vertical challenge Hope on the Slopes will return to Mt. Hood Skibowl the weekend of March 12th and 13th after a one-year no-snow hiatus.
Teams of skiers and snowboarders will compete in a 24-hour vertical challenge to see who can raise the most money to support the American Cancer Society. There will be team and individual prizes for the most vertical feet traveled and the most money raised, as well as a fun torchlight parade down the mountain, fire pits at the base and good times at the Historic Warming Hut.
The annual event has been held at Skibowl for years, but organizers had to cancel in 2015 after Skibowl has lost most of its snow base in February.
The 2014 Hope on the Slopes event at Skibowl was swamped with downpours, but it was still a good time for the hearty souls who stuck it out for 23 hours of Oregon rain.
You can sign up your team, find a team or donate to the cause at hopeontheslopes.org.
It is a little weird that there are two cancer fundraisers on the same weekend, one at Skibowl and the other at Meadows. But both Hope on the Slopes and the Oregon Cancer Ski-Out are quality events that raise money for a good cause.
