Mt. Hood resorts got hit with a barrage of rain this week that washed away plans for a three-day weekend in the snow.

A powerful storm system pummeled Mount Hood last weekend, bringing winds that peaked at 123 miles per hour at the top of the Magic Mile Friday night. The precipitation fell as heavy rain Friday night, then switched to snow for Saturday and Sunday, and back to rain with some very high temperatures Monday through Friday. The snow base at 6,000 feet shrunk from 23 inches on Monday, November 24 to 6 inches on Friday, November 28.

Mt. Hood Meadows had planned to operate for three days over Thanksgiving weekend, but Mother Nature did not cooperate. As of 10 am Friday, Meadows had not announced its plans for Saturday and Sunday.

Timberline is also waiting to see what the weather will allow them to open Saturday and Sunday. Another large storm is attempting to turn from rain to snow on Mount Hood as I write this.

Skibowl is unlikely to open skiing and snowboarding terrain any time soon, but it has been operating its tubing hill at Skibowl East and plans to do so over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The forecast calls for rain turning to snow around midnight tonight, followed by snow Saturday and a mix of rain and snow for next week.
