Teenage slalom sensation Mikaela Shiffrin tied for first place in the season-opening World Cup giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, and the video of her second run clarifies that this win was far from a fluke.

Shiffrin, the youngest woman ever to win an Olympic gold medal in slalom, has been gaining on her giant slalom rivals for several seasons, and she blasted past them at the first women’s race of the World Cup season. She led through the first run and then ripped through the bottom section of the course in her second run to earn a tie for first with last year’s overall World Cup champion, Austrian Anna Fenninger.

As you can see from this video from Universal Sports, Shiffrin skis just as smoothly at high speed in a tricky GS course as she does in slalom. And her dryland training regimen has made her stronger than ever, so look out.

Shiffrin attended the Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont and now lives in Colorado, but like all top American racers, she has done her share of gate training on Mount Hood in summer. Racing fans who saw her compete as a kid remember her well, as do neighbors who used to watch her race through town doing her favorite off-snow training exercise: riding a unicycle while juggling.
