Mt. Hood Meadows plans to operate Daisy, Easy Rider (as needed), Buttercup and Cascade Express (weather permitting) Friday through Sunday from 9 to 4.
Day passes will be selling for $39 for adults, $19 for juniors (7 – 14) and $10 for kids 6 and under. You can save $10 on your day pass by buying it in advance through Thanksgiving Day on the resort’s website.
In addition to four lifts in operation, Meadows also will co-hosting a Rail Jam Party Friday with Nike Snowboarding in Shipyard Park from noon to 3 pm. The party will feature free stuff, pro appearances and a variety of freestyle jibs to ride, although there is not yet enough snow for the Meadows Parks Crew to build large jumps.
Conditions were surprisingly good for the Meadows Preview Weekend November 23-24. The slopes and the sun deck were packed with skiers and snowboarders shedding layers with temperatures soaring up into the 50s.
This weekend won’t be quite so toasty. The weather.gov forecast for Meadows is calling for more typical late November Mount Hood weather: Rain and/or snow, strong winds and cloudy skies. The weather could turn quite gnarly Sunday afternoon and evening.
The freezing level is expected to drop to below 2500 feet Sunday night, with a chance of heavy snowfall next Monday and Tuesday. The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement at 4:17 am Wednesday, November 27 recommending that people plan to complete their holiday travels before Sunday night, to avoid hazardous driving conditions.
We could use some snow. The base at Meadows is currently just 17 inches, and trails are narrow enough to get crowded quickly, even when lift lines are non-existent.
Fortunately, the snow is expected to stick around this time, with temperatures dropping to near record lows next week.
Along with the party in the park and the discounted day passes, Meadows is offering a variety of deals to entice guests up to the mountain this holiday weekend, including a two-for-one ski or snowboard instruction package for beginners, cheaper-than-usual rentals, and 70 percent discounts on last year’s demos.
